Tax-Free Childcare delayed until 2017

6th July 2015

The Government announced last week that the launch of the new Tax-Free childcare scheme (TFC) has been delayed until early 2017.

This means that parents can continue to join their employer's existing Childcare Voucher scheme until early 2017. Once TFC is launched in 2017, the current Childcare Voucher scheme will be closed to new joiners.

It is important to note that those parents who wish to remain in the existing Childcare Voucher scheme after 2017 will be able to do so, while their current employer continues to offer the scheme.

The new TFC scheme will see the Government subsidising 20% of childcare costs up to a total of £10,000 - the equivalent of up to £2,000 support per child, per year. So for every 80p a parent or someone else pays in, the government will top up an extra 20p.

Not all parents will benefit from the new TFC scheme and may find they will be better off remaining on the existing Childcare Voucher scheme. As a parent you will be able to choose which scheme is more beneficial to you and your family.
